Nonconformity:
Nonconformity is the refusal to conform to accepted standards or rules. During the Puritans time it was common of all people to act the same way, believe in the same ideas, and follow the same rules. Today in pop-culture numerous people, literature, and poems show that being a nonconformist is a good thing. In Robert Frost's poem "The Road Not Taken" he states that " Two roads diverged in a wood, and I- I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference." This means that of the paths, or choices, available and taken by everyone he took the one less chosen and that has changed the outcome of his life. This is also evident in Ralph Waldo Emerson's quote "Do not go where the path may lead; go instead where there is no path and leave a trail."

"Nothing is at last sacred but the integrity of your own mind. Absolve you to yourself and you shall have the suffrage of the world."- Ralph Waldo Emerson
